Macworld Keynote Kicks Ass
After lots of rumors leaking out, Apple finally did it--they released the iPhone. And it's gonna be huge. It's like no other mobile phone you've ever seen. Check out my Macworld Keynote post over at the Amazon tech blog.
Here's some more from the WaPo:
The iPhone -- which should be available through Cingular Wireless in June, pending FCC approval -- will be priced at $499 for a 4-gigabyte model and $599 for an 8-giagbyte model.I've got loads of work to do with getting Apple content to Amazon today (Apple also released the Apple TV and a new 802.11n router), so I'll most likely be back to posting again tomorrow.
Jobs said that the iPhone has three built-in sensors. A proximity sensor shuts off the display and touchscreen when a user brings it to the ear to make a phone call. An ambient light sensor can tell how bright an area is and adjusts the device's brightness to save power accordingly. Another sensor can tell how the device is being carried and adjusts the screen accordingly.
[...]
Jobs bragged that the device is more flexible that other "smartphone" devices because it uses a touchscreen instead of a built-in keyboard. He demonstrated the device's functions by swiping his fingers across it and making a pinching gesture to zoom in and out of Web pages.

Gotta part ways with ya on this one. Will pose a question for ya though.
What sounds more rediculous:
a $500 Cel phone
or
8GB mp3 player for $600?
Sorry man, I think Apple made another really bad decision.
Agree with pretty much all your other (non-tech ;) observations, loyal reader, happy new years!
Thanks for sticking with my other (non-tech) observations, which are fueled by a severe case of geekdom that Mrs. F is continually trying to wash out of my system. And a happy new years right back atcha.
I would like to know if the iPhone will be available in South Africa?
I would like to know if the iphone will be available on ARGENTINA???
When?
And How much will it cost?
I would like to know what all the other cellular companies are going to do when their users start breaking contracts to switch over to Cingular for the iPhone.
Oh, and what Cingular is going to do to get us to do that. ;P
