Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word
The New York Time has fallen on its sword, apologizing for some of the coverage in the leadup to the war in Iraq as being "not as rigorous as it should have been." They point to several instances of information gathered from now suspect Iraqi informants (many gathered by now suspect Ahmad Chalabi) and government officials who were bent on regime change in the most extreme. I applaud the Times for this, and hope that it instills a more careful, thoughtful, and skeptical approach to gathering information, not just for the times but for the rest of the press corp.

For more on Chalabi, check out this article in the London Guardian, which reports on possible ties to Iran.

John Kerry is in town this morning, and I had tickets to go see the rally down at the pier. But both myself and our cat, Wompus, have been feeling poorly this week, so I think I'll sit out this rainy gathering and hope for another visit. Parie and I have been wearing our John Kerry buttons (Parie has been a bit more consistent about this), and she reports that she's been getting a lot of positive comments.

A CNN report today quotes Kerry as saying, "I can wage a more effective war on terror than George Bush" (which comes in light of warnings from Tom Ridge and John Ashcroft that the probability of terrorist attacks on US soil this summer is quite high). I would like to hear some more background to this statement from the candidate.
