The Media Is the Massage
Our bumbling President took another spill this weekend. Previously, he had been sidelined by a pretzel and a Segway. Yesterday, his bike was the culprit. (He's definitely looking like a war time president now.) But the real story is a comment made by John Kerry, first reported (at least from my findings yesterday) by the Drudge Report, in which he wondered, "Did the training wheels come off?" The DR noted that several news organizations were deciding whether to treat this as an off-the-record comment. Well, thanks to this musiing, it seems it has entered into the larger media via the conservative Washington Times.
Media Matters, David Brock's RightWing-debunking site, also notes that it's now official: the Drudge Report is a peddler of GOP propaganda. I saw this link to the GOP's profile of Nancy Pelosi last week (in conjunction with her statement that President Bush is incompetent) and was rather astounded.
In another Media Matters segment, it seems that Ann Coulter is up to her old tricks--calling Bill Clinton a scumbag and saying that it's factually correct. Huh? OK, that's an opinion (one I don't share and one that's a bit shrill), but it certainly isn't a verifiable fact. Oh, she also calls him a rapist (without being ever being charged as one). To quote Al Franken, what is wrong with this woman?
