Weeds!

I'm quite excited by the start of the new season of one of the best shows on TV -- Showtime's Weeds (with Mary Louise Parker as a suburban soccer mom/pot dealer). Unfortunately, I don't have Showtime and have relied on the iTunes Store for my fix, and I'm hoping that the new season makes it to iTunes sooner than later. However, for those with a Windows machine (not me) and a broadband connection, TVSquad notes that the first episode of season 2 is being streamed from MSN for free for the next week.

Speaking of TV via iTunes, the store is still offering a free download of the first episode of the second season of Morgan Spurlock's 30 Days reality series from Fox, which brings together an anti-immigran activist (Frank, a Cuban immigrant who immigrated legally when he was a child but now a staunch defender of the borders -- so much so that he's a member of the Minute Men) and an illegal immigrant family. While the set-up certainly sounds ripe for standard fare reality series sparks (of which there are certainly a few), it never becomes histrionic and shows the emotional growth and understanding of all the issues related to illegal immigration. Mrs. F and I were impressed enough to plunk down our $1.99 for the second (equally excellent) episode, which brings a down-sized New York computer programmer to Bangalore, India to live with a family full of outsourced telemarketers.

I am intrigued by "Weeds" as well but don't have Showtime, either. Will probably make the iTunes plunge one of these days.

As for music--have you heard of Jim Noir? We got his album in-house and I've been listening kinda non-stop the last couple of days; I really dig it and think you might, too. If you don't already have it, I can burn.

Oh yeah - he's the guy who did the "If You Don't Give My Football Back" song that was played with the Adidas commercials during the World Cup (the ones with the little kids playing in the dirt lot behind their apartment with Beckham, Arjen Robben, Kaka, Zidane, and others). Very curious to hear more.

Oh yeah... digging the samples at his official site. Plus, it's got the football video.
