The Song of the Summer
I've fallen under the spell of The Magic Numbers--a fairly hairy and rather well-fed group based in the UK--and their new single, "Forever Lost." I mentioned this sunny tune in last month's posting about the album of the month (which is getting a little old now--a new one will be posted soon), but it has continued to rattle around in my inner iPod without abatement. It's got a Lovin' Spoonful pop vibe, Mamas & Papas vocal harmonies, a bit of melodica playing, and just a touch of handclapping (which usually spells death to songs for me, as many of you know, but accents this song quite nicely).
Anyhoo, the song's video has been posted by Britain's NME magazine (in both Real and Windows Media varietals). Neither the single or album have yet to be released (the album comes out in the UK in late June), but I've been able to capture the tune via BBC Radio 1's Blue Room show (where they're featured this weekend) and it will be making an appearance (along with the group's first single) on this year's summer compilation.
