From the Battleground of North Carolina
A report from my mother-in-law in Raleigh, NC:
I just got home from manning the phone banks since 9:00 AM at one of the three offices here in Raleigh. There were so many volunteers that they ran out of phones and people began using their cell phones. I was able to identify one troublesome precinct with lots of confused people, and we sent some more people over to help out. One group I called was from a predominantly black precinct in Winston-Salem. Everybody I talked to had already voted or were planning to do so. Most seemed pretty pumped up. Voting turnout has been huge so far. We may turn NC blue after all. If not, it has not been from a lack of effort or organization.
I'll keep my fingers crossed. We're watching CNN at the 4 o'clock hour (PST) and they've called three states (Indiana, Kentucky, and Georgia) for Bush and one (Vermont) for Kerry--no surprises there.
