Important Issues Being Ignored by Both Parties

Can we get politicians to look beyond the next election?

After posting the quote by E. J. Dionne about how Democrats used to confront the big issues of the day like the civil rights, I couldn’t stop thinking about questions I wish the Democratic party would tackle:
  1. Can political leadership force American people realize that confronting global warming will cause personal sacrifices and can not be done painlessly?

  2. If globalization brings down labor costs close to that of the Third World, who will be left to buy the products produced?

  3. Since technology continues to replace workers with machines, what will we do with the surplus population this creates?

  4. How can we ensure that every citizen gets at least basic health care?

  5. Are there ways to replace our culture of greed and competition with ideals not only more moral but also more effective to the common good?

  6. Is there a way to make the American people take an unflinching and sustained look at the realities of poverty?
Do you have other suggestions?
