Time for a Dual-Tuner TiVo?
Many out there have enjoyed the high life of DirecTV/TiVo boxes that enable you to record simultaneously from two channels, but if you've got standard TiVo connected to cable, you've been out of luck. But that changed recently, with the announcement of the dual-tuner Series2 models for cable (here's the 80 GB unit)--even the Reverend Dr. Mom has been peppering me with questions about it. I'm still using my original Sony TiVo from 2000, and it's working great (thanks to a recent swapping of hard drives from Weaknees). And Mrs. F and I are always trying to keep our TV viewing down... but this tidbit from today's Studio Briefing gave me pause:
ABC announced Tuesday that it will move its highest-rated program, Grey's Anatomy, from Sunday to Thursday when the season begins next fall. It will compete against CBS's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and NBC's much-buzzed-about new series from Aaron Sorkin, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
Frankly, I could care less about GA (never seen it; did ER back in the 90s and don't need to go back), but I am very, very curious about Studio 60 as I've been a longtime Sorkin fan since Sports Night. Unfortunately, it runs up against one of Mrs. F's must-see shows in CSI, so it looks like I might be doomed to buying episodes from the iTunes Store. Here's a bit more on the show from Slate:
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip stars Steven Weber, D.L. Hughley, Amanda Peet, Bradley Whitford, Timothy Busfield, Matthew Perry, Sarah Paulson, and The Daily Show's Nate Corddry, who we are now supposed to call Nathan. It's got pill-popping TV producers, quivering boy-naifs, and spiky dames. An Aaron Sorkin creation, it seems to share the verbal energy of Sorkin's Sports Night and his early West Wing episodes. What's not to love? For a critic, nothing yet. For the guy in front of me in line for the after-party? "I don't know if they wanted it to be a comedy or a drama or what?"
Same complaint as heard from many over Sorkin's Sports Night dramedy. But what's this I spy?
Timothy Busfield!!!!! Elliot from 30Something! I love that guy.

Grey's Anatomy is reasonably okay. I'm not addicted to it, but do tune in when I remember. One thing that is great about it, though, is that they always have good music on the show. This week's episode featured a surgery scene with Gomez and, wait for it, "This is How We Operate."
Nice! I'm still awaiting my special Gomeze How We Operate CD (with bonus disc and autographs). Guess I shouldn't have selected the Slow Boat from Birmingham shipping method.
