Dead Man's Party
Right Wing Noise Machine blowhards Michelle Malkin and the Little Green Footballs blog are noting that there's a Lefty HAF group (Hate America Firsters) that's going to be throwing parties across the country to celebrate the 2000th death in Iraq. LGF notes in its post:
The American Friends Service Committee is planning to hold a series of parties all across the country when the 2000th US soldier is killed in Iraq: Not One More Death. Not One More Dollar.Michelle grabs onto that post and adds:
THE GHOULS OF THE LEFTUm. I hate to break it to you folks, but these aren't parties. They're wakes and memorials to the fallen soldiers that's combined with a pro-peace rally to send a message to Washington DC that this war has been an abomination and a waste of life. And its sponsor--the American Friends Service Committee--isn't exactly the partying crowd:
They support the troops...by partying over their deaths.
Sick.
But it's par for the course.
The American Friends Service Committee carries out service, development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the world. Founded by Quakers in 1917 to provide conscientious objectors with an opportunity to aid civilian war victims, AFSC's work attracts the support and partnership of people of many races, religions, and cultures. If you're interested in supporting something this subversive, check out their list of event locations. My local event is being held at the replica Statue of Liberty on Alki Beach here in West Seattle.
AFSC's work is based on the Quaker belief in the worth of every person and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice. The organization's mission and achievements won worldwide recognition in 1947 when it accepted the Nobel Peace Prize with the British Friends Service Council on behalf of all Quakers.
The AFSC is directed by a Quaker board and staffed by Quakers and other people of faith who share the Friends' desire for peace and social justice.
