Turd Blossom in Texas

No, we're not talking 'bout Rove (who was given the Presidential nickname of Turd Blossom), but a new ethanol production plant in Texas; via Treehugger:

The Panda Group from Dallas has announced that it will built a $120 million ethanol plant in Hereford, Texas (North-West of Dallas). Construction began this summer, and it should be operational in late 2006 producing 100 million gallons of fuel each year from corn and milo. What's interesting is that is has recently been announced that the future ethanol plant will basically run on cow poo ...

"The company said it will realize an energy savings equivalent to 1,000 barrels of oil per day by turning manure and cotton-gin waste into clean-burning fuel to power the plant." So the biofuel plant will run on biomass. "Cattle in the Texas Panhandle produce billions of pounds of manure each year, making it the ideal location to set up these types of power plants. Researchers at Texas A&M University say that manure contains at best about 1/3 - 1/4 of the energy value of coal (per kg) [...] This means that transporting manure far distances to power plants is impractical, and it should be used as a fuel only regionally."

Heck, even our President could contribute to this movement... if he only had any animals on his "ranch."
