Friends in High Places
The end of an era is upon me--I'm about to move out of the office I've shared with several freelance compatriots for the last year and a half (for some of them, this is our second go-round together). I've been quite lucky to have been able to hang with my pals Glenn Fleishman and Jeff Carlson, who have offered me lots of support, referrals, and the occasional gig over many years.

Glenn, the proprietor of Wi-Fi Net News, recently hit on a bit of a turning tide within the wireless coffee house community, where some shops are now closing down their networks (either completely or just on weekends) to help improve the community feeling of their shops. After initially reporting it on his site, he expanded on it for an article for the NYTimes--good on ya Glenn!

I've collaborated on several projects with Jeff, most recently helping him update the Palm Organizers : Visual QuickStart Guide (4th Edition) and copyediting part of the iMovie HD and iDVD 5 for Mac OS X : Visual QuickStart Guide (couldn't get to it all before my recent Paris honeymoon). He and Glenn are sharing the Practical Mac column space in the Seattle Times, and Jeff's most recent column is about Apple's announced switch to Intel processors.

And while we're on the subject of FOTF (Friends of the Facade), our good pal Ward Sutton is going to be doing some barnstorming of the country this summer, promoting his first book collecting comic strips from his weekly Sutton Impact gig at the Village Voice. I hear he's having some events in Minneapolis this week, and he'll be here in Seattle at the Elliott Bay Book Company on July 5.
