Humility
Amazon is getting into the spirit of the campaign season, including brief interviews with political writers such as Ann Coulter and Al Franken. Here are their answers to the question, "What are the top five books you'd recommend to become an informed voter? And what can your new book contribute?":
Franken: I understand from Amazon that readers who bought my book also enjoyed Bushwhacked by Molly Ivins, The Great Unraveling by Paul Krugman, The Price of Loyalty by Ron Suskind, Big Lies by Joe Conason, and, for some reason, The South Beach Diet. So, I'd recommend those. My book links the mendacity of this administration with the laziness and timidity of the mainstream media with the outright dishonesty and perfidy of attack dogs in the right-wing media.
Coulter: The Bible, High Crimes and Misdemeanors, Slander, Treason, and How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must).
Note that four of the five books that Coulter mentions are her own (and she often makes that other book not written by her bend to her own views). Ann's benevolent world view also leaks out a bit (and this is a very short interview:
Amazon.com: What is the most important lesson from President Bush's term so far?
Coulter: Peace through strength is an idea that never goes out of style. Also, some people can’t be negotiated with but have to be crushed; e.g., the Taliban, al Qaeda, possibly North Korea and Iran, Pat Leahy, Carl Levin, Richard Ben-Veniste...
Amazon.com: What would a Kerry administration mean?
Coulter: Quite possibly the destruction of the Republic.
